We met on an Overwatch team in early 2019 whilst Andrea was in Italy and Dom was at Keele. We began talking and started dating in July over a distance of 1000 km. We first met in person in December of that year when Dom travelled to Italy. Our first proper date was watching fireworks over the Lago Maggiore. Andrea travelled to the Isle of Wight in early 2020, and we hoped for many trips to see each other in 2020. It will come as no surprise that these never happened.

Between lockdowns, we made a mad dash and moved in together in Nottingham. Somehow, after spending no more than a week together total, we survived being locked in a room without any other human contact for a year. It shouldn't have worked, but it did.

Following this, we moved to Bath and Dom started his PhD. With lockdown a distant memory, we travelled to Italy to visit Andrea’s family for Christmas after over a year without seeing them. We also had a bit of a grand tour of Italy with trips to Venice, Milan and Florence. We’ve been to Italy many times since, and Andrea’s family has come to Bath twice; we’re so lucky to be able to see them as frequently as we do.

We didn’t talk much about marriage, but we’ve been sure that we want to be together indefinitely for ages. Dom proposed on a drizzly Valentine’s Day 2024. We were unsure of the wedding we wanted, certainly not a stuffy church wedding, but the idea of a wedding in Italy kept coming up, a dream wedding on the lake. You can’t get any closer to the lake than on an island.

Ci siamo conosciuti in un team di Overwatch nel 2019 quando Andrea era in Italia e Dom era a Keele. Abbiamo iniziato la nostra relazione a Luglio con una distanza di oltre 1000 Km. Ci siamo incontrati per la pima volta nel Dicembre dello stesso anno quando Dom ha viaggiato in Italia. Il nostro primo vero appuntamento è stato vedere i fuochi d’artificio sul Lago Maggiore. Andrea ha viaggiato sull’Isola di Wight all’inizio del 2020, e speravamo in molte altre visite di questo tipo per vederci ancore. Per sorpresa di nessuno non è successo.

Tra i vari lockdown abbiamo deciso di fare una follia e trasferirci tutti e due a Nottingham. In qualche modo, dopo aver speso meno di una settimana insieme prima di trasferirci, siamo riusciti a sopravvivere al rimanere bloccati in una stanza dove potevamo interagire solo con noi stessi. Non si sa come ma ha funzionato

Dopodichè ci siamo trasferiti a Bath e Dom ha iniziato il suo dottorato. Ora che il lockdown era passato siamo andati in Italia a passare il Natale dalla famiglia di Andrea dopo non averli visti per oltre un anno. Ne abbiamo approfittato per fare un tour dell’Italia tra cui Venezia, Milano e Firenze. Siamo stati in Italia parecchie volte da allora e la famiglia di Andrea è stata a Bath 2 volte. Siamo fortunati di riuscire a vederli abbastanza spesso.

Non abbiamo parlato tanto di sposarci ma sapevamo entrambi di voler rimanere insieme per sempre. Dom si è proposto in un piovoso San Valentino nel 2024. Non eravamo sicuri di che tipo di matriomonio volevamo, di certo non il solito in una chiesa, ma l’idea di un matrimonio in Italia continuava a saltar fuori. Un matrimonio da sogno sul lago. E non c’è posto più vicino al lago che su un’isola.
